Bath towels
"The towels are made with cotton, which is a natural fiber - that is why their care is so important, avoiding aggressive chemical products as much as possible and taking care of their drying and ventilation, so that they maintain their properties like the first day".
Washing your towels
- Wash them before first use: This step improves absorption and removes any residue from the manufacturing process.
- Use warm water and a mild detergent.
- Avoid fabric softeners in the first wash, as they can reduce the absorption capacity.
- Separate colors: Wash light and dark towels separately to avoid color transfers.
- Avoid overloading the washing machine: Towels need room to move and rinse properly.
- Suitable temperature: Wash your towels at a temperature between 30 and 40 °C. Very high temperatures can damage cotton fibers.
- Use the correct detergent: Opt for detergents free of bleach or harsh chemicals.
- Avoid fabric softeners: Although they may seem like a good idea, fabric softeners leave residue that reduces the absorbency of cotton. If you want extra softness, you can use white vinegar instead.
Proper drying
- Shake before drying: When removing towels from the washing machine, shake them well to fluff the fibers and facilitate drying.
- Low temperature tumble dryer: If you use a tumble dryer, opt for a low temperature program to avoid damaging the fibers and maintain softness. Introducing drying balls or tennis balls will help keep them fluffy.
- Air drying: If you prefer to air dry, avoid direct exposure to the sun for long periods as it may fade the colors. Choose a ventilated place and spread them completely.
- Iron if necessary: Ironing towels is not recommended, as excessive heat can compact the fibers and reduce their fluffiness. If you decide to do this, use a low temperature and avoid pressing too hard.
- Using the dryer: Although you can use the dryer, it is important to choose a gentle, low-temperature program. This not only protects the fibers, but also maintains their volume and fluffy texture.
Moisture prevention
- Avoid closed spaces: Do not store wet towels or in places without ventilation. Make sure they are completely dry before folding and storing.
- Ventilate the bathroom: Use an exhaust fan or open windows after showering to reduce humidity in the environment.
- Use suitable coat racks: Place them on wide bars or hooks that allow air to circulate freely.
Solution for damp towels
If your towels have already become damp and have a bad smell, follow these steps:
- Deep wash: Wash them with hot water (always checking the care instructions) and add a cup of white vinegar to the wash cycle to eliminate odors.
- Intensive drying: Dry them immediately after washing. Tumble dry or air dry in a very well-ventilated area.
- Baking soda: For persistent odors, add half a cup of baking soda to the wash along with regular detergent.
- Repeat if necessary: If the odor persists, repeat the washing and drying process until the towels are completely fresh.
Enjoy your towels like the first day
